Read Chapter OneChapter 1 — The Orie Reckoning
Nze Nwosu walked into the crowded market square just as dawn stretched across the city skyline. Vendors arranged fruits in perfect rows. Traders shouted prices across dusty pathways while motorcycles cut through the restless movement of the morning.
But today felt different.
The air carried a strange rhythm beneath the noise — something ancient, something alive. Nze stopped walking immediately as tension crawled through his chest.
He had felt this sensation before.
Only once.
The day his father disappeared without explanation.
A woman brushed past him suddenly. Elegant. Calm. Impossible to ignore.
Before Nze could react, she slipped a folded note into his hand and vanished into the crowd.
Nze stared at the words. No signature. No explanation. Just a warning.
Thunder rumbled softly above the city despite the clear sky.
Around him, the market continued moving as though nothing had happened, but Nze could feel it now — patterns hidden inside movement.
Conversations repeated themselves. Numbers appeared too often. Faces felt familiar before introductions.
Something was shifting.
And somehow… it was connected to him.
A loud crash echoed nearby.
People screamed.
Nze turned instantly.
A young trader had collapsed beside a broken wooden stall, clutching a silver bracelet engraved with a strange symbol.
The exact same symbol Nze had seen years ago in his father's notebook.
The same symbol he had spent years trying to forget.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated violently.
He answered carefully.
Static filled the line.
Then a deep voice whispered:
The call ended.
Cold silence followed.
For the first time in years, fear crept into his mind.
Not fear of danger.
Fear of destiny.
Because deep inside, Nze already knew one terrifying truth:
It was a game hidden beneath reality itself.
